Are you sitting down? Because I’m about to say something that some folks may find shocking. I’ve never understood the fuss when it comes to Lush products. Hear me out -I grew up with a mother who would get a headache when we passed by the Lush store at our local shopping centre. She’d spot it a mile off and rush us past it as quickly as possible. Growing up, many of my friends had the same reaction. In fact, I can think of only one friend of mine who can actually tolerate the scent enough to step inside. So because of that, I’ve never really explored the realm of the Lush store -until lately.
It was a few weeks ago, I spotted the store and suddenly wanted to go inside. Inside I purchased two products, one a bubble bar and the other this cleanser, Dark Angels. The labelling says this product is a Face and body cleanser but believe me when I say that it is so much more than that. You know when you stumble across a product, use it and have to stop and marvel at the wonders it works -well that has been a constant routine of mine since I have been using this product.
Dark Angels is not just a cleanser, its both an exfoliator and cleanser all in one. It has Charcoal and Black sugar to exfoliate, but also has Rhassoul Mud to cleanse and Avocado oil to soften and moisturise -so as you can see there’s a nice balance to the ingredients of this product. Not only does it remove dirt and cleanse the skin, but I’ve noticed it also leaves my skin with a glow that I have never experienced from any other product. The mask itself is black and makes you look rather terrifying if you don’t warn the people you live with that you’re using it, however, it does apply and remove really easy so that’s a nice little bonus.
It’s pretty much up to you how much or how little you apply, and it’s the easiest to make. You simply take your chosen amount out the tub, add a little water, mix around in your hand and apply to your face or body. Once you’ve graced your skin with its amazing qualities, then rinse off with water and follow with any steps you require. I usually sweep a pad around my face with some toner sprayed onto it, just to remove any little excess bits of the cleanser that I didn’t manage to rinse off. I follow that up with my moisturiser or some coconut oil.
I have noticed a huge difference in my skin since using this product and although it can be a bit more of a messier product (if you’re not careful), I really notice the effect it has on my skin and can’t imagine using any other product other than this now.
Have you ever tried Dark Angels? What did you think?
Cheerio for now!
It’s getting to that time of the year when things become a little stressful for us students. Whether it be the finishing off coursework, sitting final exams or merely packing your dorm and trying to decide where to move for the next year. Some of us are way ahead of our workload, eagerly awaiting Summer to jet off traveling, while others’ are pulling all-nighters, living off red bull and hibernating under a fort made out of textbooks. I’ll admit more often than not I fall into the latter –though I survive off tea rather than a red bull. I don’t know about others’, but when this happens the only thing that will calm my stresses and ease the knots in my hunch back is a warm shower and a luxurious pamper. what can I say? -it’s what we skincare junkies do!
If you hadn’t guessed by now, my favourite brand is Tropic (who you can read more about here). I find their products so luxurious so naturally, they make for the perfect pamper. Within the past few months, my pamper routine has had some new additions, two of which I wanted to share with you today.
Soothe the Senses, body wash
I was super excited to finally try this body wash and it didn’t disappoint by any means. The body wash is a velvety, creamy texture, with a heavenly vanilla scent. The consistency is more runny and thinner than other shower gels so a little goes a long way. Having said this, it lathers up just as well as any other body wash and within a few scrubs, you feel fresh as a daisy!
Soothe the Senses, luxury body oil
Now, my mom has been pretty obsessed with this oil for over a year now. It is a vital part of her post-shower ritual and as such, she can’t live without it. I, on the other hand, had never really been brave enough to try it. I’m one of those people who has always feared oils (that’s a story for another post) though the alluring floral scent and the pretty flower enticed me and soon I was hooked.
The body oil has a combination of oils including rosehip and argan oils so it is perfect to give your body a dose of hydration and a silky finish post-shower. It is also multi-functional and can be used in your bath, as a conditioning mask for your hair and to tame split ends. Ideal, huh?
What is produces are essential for your pamper sessions?
I saw this face clay around over a year ago but steered clear thinking it was simply a gimmick product like a perfume called ‘mermaid tears’ or body shimmer called ‘fairy dust’. It wasn’t until it popped up in one of Simply_Kenna’s Cruelty-Free Products video that I finally thought I’d give it a shot. The Aztec Healing Clay comes in a screw top tub, as seen above, which I paid around £9 for a 1 Lb tub from Amazon. There was a mixture of reviews on the site which made me a little hesitant but at such a cheap price I decided to go for it.
The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Facial Clay has multiple uses and benefits, including removing dirt and impurities from pores. It’s deep cleansing properties are miracle workers for the minimized appearance of pores and brightening effects on the skin. Bonus factor- it’s 100% natural Calcium Bentonite (Green) Clay.
How can you use it?
- The tub says the clay can be used for facials, acne, bodywraps, foot soaks, baths and insect bites. Personally, I have only used it on my nose, around my lip area and on acne as those are my problem areas.
- To use, simply add equal parts of the clay with raw apple cider vinegar or water to form a smooth paste.
- To mix, it’s required to use a non-metal bowl and utensil
- Make sure no liquid gets into your tub of product so the rest of the clay powder doesn’t ruin.
- Once the mixture is smooth, apply to problem areas and let dry. For delicate skin let the mix sit for 5-10 minutes and 15-20 minutes for normal skin. It will feel tight and may even have a warming effect on your skin.
- Once ready to remove, rinse off with warm water.
- Once removed skin will have a redness to it for around 30 minutes but soon disappears.
- Use once a week, or more often for problem areas.
This product has become a must-have in my skincare regime and I use it once a week. Because you are mixing it yourself, at times it is a little tricky to get the consistency right and in the first few uses you can potentially waste quite a bit of the product. My advice to avoid this would be to start with the smallest amount and go from there, even if that means mixing up a new batch if you don’t quite have enough for your use. I have to say, overall I am super impressed by this product and its’ quality. I would recommend to anyone who wants to give their skin some extra TLC.
Have you ever tried Aztec Secret Indian Healing Facial Clay? What did you think?
I recently tried to write a post about my everyday products by Tropic, but each time I started to derail off topic and go on a tangent of how amazing the brand is, their principles, etc. Knowing how much I hate those rambling posts I decided the only way was to produce this post with everything you need to know about the brand before you get bombarded by all my lovestruck, gushing posts about the products. Let’s begin*
Tropic is a skincare brand that produces natural skin care products including face, body, and makeup. The products are made using natural formulations from tropical plants, derived from all the natural goodness from plants including the flower, stem, roots, leaves, seeds and fruit. The mission of Tropic is the clear, healthy skin of their customers and for this reason, they only use the richest, most nutritious ingredients out there.
The principles at the root of the company and each product they produce are ‘Pure, Honest, Effective’. As lovers’ of animals they do not test on animals and are certified by Cruelty-Free International, with their products home to the leaping bunny stamp. They are also certified by The Vegan Society and hold the sunflower vegan symbol.
Tropic place an emphasis on honesty, placing their ingredients in not only the INCI system but also in a plain English translation of what those actual ingredients are, so you don’t have to cause those extra few frowning wrinkles whilst you try to decipher those big jargoned scientific words. Each item also holds a ‘best before’ date so that you know how fresh the ingredients in the product are and when to finally toss it. Helpful huh?
Because products are made using premium natural ingredients, this means they can be used on all skin types, even the most sensitive of skin. I have always suffered from sensitive skin and seem to have never truly found a product hydrating enough, though Tropic has exceeded all my expectations and ticks all the boxes I need in my skin care.
What do I mean by natural?
Tropic only use 100% natural derived ingredients or those that are nature identical. A small number of their products have safe synthetics, though this is only used as a last resort when there are no natural or vegan alternatives. Having said this, as a rule, Tropic products are free from Parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Phthalates, alcohol, Petrochemicals, Gluten, Harsh preservatives, Harmful Synthetic Fragrances, Toxic Chemicals and so much more. You can view the whole list here.
Why have I never seen Tropic at the Drugstore?
The reason you won’t have ever seen any of the Tropic products in your local drugstore is because of their natural ingredients. Each product is made to order to ensure you have the freshest ingredients going onto your skin. Each and every product is manufactured in the company’s Beauty Kitchen in Surrey, which means when you place an order the product you get has been produced specifically for you instead of sitting on a shelf, being preserved by harsh chemicals.
Tropic has quickly become my favourite skincare brand. Their products are luxurious, effective and don’t break the bank in the process. If that doesn’t sound good to you I don’t know what will.
