Lush | Dark Angels

Are you sitting down? Because I’m about to say something that some folks may find shocking. I’ve never understood the fuss when it comes to Lush products. Hear me out -I grew up with a mother who would get a headache when we passed by the Lush store at our local shopping centre. She’d spot it a mile off and rush us past it as quickly as possible. Growing up, many of my friends had the same reaction. In fact, I can think of only one friend of mine who can actually tolerate the scent enough to step inside. So because of that, I’ve never really explored the realm of the Lush store -until lately.

It was a few weeks ago, I spotted the store and suddenly wanted to go inside. Inside I purchased two products, one a bubble bar and the other this cleanser, Dark Angels. The labelling says this product is a Face and body cleanser but believe me when I say that it is so much more than that. You know when you stumble across a product, use it and have to stop and marvel at the wonders it works -well that has been a constant routine of mine since I have been using this product.

Dark Angels is not just a cleanser, its both an exfoliator and cleanser all in one. It has Charcoal and Black sugar to exfoliate, but also has Rhassoul Mud to cleanse and Avocado oil to soften and moisturise -so as you can see there’s a nice balance to the ingredients of this product. Not only does it remove dirt and cleanse the skin, but I’ve noticed it also leaves my skin with a glow that I have never experienced from any other product. The mask itself is black and makes you look rather terrifying if you don’t warn the people you live with that you’re using it, however, it does apply and remove really easy so that’s a nice little bonus.

It’s pretty much up to you how much or how little you apply, and it’s the easiest to make. You simply take your chosen amount out the tub, add a little water, mix around in your hand and apply to your face or body. Once you’ve graced your skin with its amazing qualities, then rinse off with water and follow with any steps you require. I usually sweep a pad around my face with some toner sprayed onto it, just to remove any little excess bits of the cleanser that I didn’t manage to rinse off. I follow that up with my moisturiser or some coconut oil.
I have noticed a huge difference in my skin since using this product and although it can be a bit more of a messier product (if you’re not careful), I really notice the effect it has on my skin and can’t imagine using any other product other than this now.

Have you ever tried Dark Angels? What did you think?

Kind Natured: Deeply Nourishing

Kind Natured with Deeply Nourishing Shea & Macadamia

Whenever I visit Boots I always check out the Kind Natured products and see if they are on offer (I tend to stock up when they are), but it wasn’t until my later part of my uni year, when I was too busy to go to the shops and was doing an online shop, that I realised they had released new products. Now there are quite a few new products but the ones that caught my eye were the Love Curls Shampoo and Conditioner, which I have a post on coming soon and this Deeply Nourishing collection of products. All of the products below are catered for very dry skin, perfect to quench your dehydrated skin throughout the summer months.

If you haven’t read my past posts on Kind Natured you can do so here. Even so, I will still give you a brief rundown of the brand. Kind Natured keeps it natural, with their products being 97% natural and entirely free from Sulphates, Parabens, and Petrochemicals. Their products are cruelty-free, vegetarian & vegan-friendly and their packaging is recyclable: so as you can see, in every way possible they are animal and earth-lovers, wanting to preserve our planet and produce kick-ass products.
Body Lotion is something I have only got into in the past year or so. I think because so many lotions can be quite clammy on your skin that it put me off for a really long time. Since having a beach hut and visiting it in all weathers (yes, even wind and rain) I have realised that we need to keep our skin hydrated and nourished, especially when the weather is harsher.

This body lotion is very quick to absorb but you still feel as though it is having an effect on your skin as opposed to your skin absorbing it and then still feeling dry or itchy. I love applying this after a shower, especially on my legs which have been a lot dryer since the weather has been warmer and I have had them out more.
Hand cream is something I usually overlook entirely, which is odd because I suffer from super dry hands and get really bad eczema on the sides of my fingers (really nice, I know). I didn’t know what to expect from this hand cream. From my limited experience with hand creams,’ they fall into one of the two categories: either super heavy oil-based creams that make your hands clammy for half an hour or useless, in that your skin immediately absorbs all product and you feel no difference whatsoever. This hand cream, however, serves up some serious skin hydration without clammy or sticky skin and without you deeming it useless.

You can apply as frequently as you require. I tend to apply after my face routine, in the morning and at night. With it being part of my skin ritual it is impossible to forget this important step and make sure my hands get the TLC they deserve.
I first tried this body scrub a few days after I received some pretty severe windburn. Now, I know I probably shouldn’t use a body scrub on the damaged or fragile skin, such as windburn, but after feeling the creamy consistency I thought I’d give it a whirl on my burnt skin which was starting to peel. It was like magic, so gentle on my sore skin but also so effective at buffing away my dead skin and softening the dry, dehydrated skin from long days at the beach hut. I couldn’t help but feel my renewed skin and constantly be surprised at its’ softness.

Its’ recommended to use this once or twice a week on damp skin. Rinse with lukewarm water, and use a body lotion for maximum results and baby soft skin.

As I mentioned, all of these products are made for dry-very dry skin, however, Kind Natured do have a range of products for normal-dry skin too if that is more suited to your skin type.

Soothe the senses with Tropic

Tropic Soothing Body Wash & Soothing Body Oil (in Tropical Multi-Coloured Packaging)
Tropic Soothe The Senses (calming body wash) & Soothe the Senses (luxury body oil)

It’s getting to that time of the year when things become a little stressful for us students. Whether it be the finishing off coursework, sitting final exams or merely packing your dorm and trying to decide where to move for the next year. Some of us are way ahead of our workload, eagerly awaiting Summer to jet off traveling, while others’ are pulling all-nighters, living off red bull and hibernating under a fort made out of textbooks. I’ll admit more often than not I fall into the latter –though I survive off tea rather than a red bull. I don’t know about others’, but when this happens the only thing that will calm my stresses and ease the knots in my hunch back is a warm shower and a luxurious pamper. what can I say? -it’s what we skincare junkies do!

If you hadn’t guessed by now, my favourite brand is Tropic (who you can read more about here). I find their products so luxurious so naturally, they make for the perfect pamper. Within the past few months, my pamper routine has had some new additions, two of which I wanted to share with you today.

Body Wash and Tropic Packaging

Soothe the Senses, body wash
I was super excited to finally try this body wash and it didn’t disappoint by any means. The body wash is a velvety, creamy texture, with a heavenly vanilla scent. The consistency is more runny and thinner than other shower gels so a little goes a long way. Having said this, it lathers up just as well as any other body wash and within a few scrubs, you feel fresh as a daisy!

Tropic Luxury Body Oil with Gold flower within

Soothe the Senses, luxury body oil
Now, my mom has been pretty obsessed with this oil for over a year now. It is a vital part of her post-shower ritual and as such, she can’t live without it. I, on the other hand, had never really been brave enough to try it. I’m one of those people who has always feared oils (that’s a story for another post) though the alluring floral scent and the pretty flower enticed me and soon I was hooked.

The body oil has a combination of oils including rosehip and argan oils so it is perfect to give your body a dose of hydration and a silky finish post-shower. It is also multi-functional and can be used in your bath, as a conditioning mask for your hair and to tame split ends. Ideal, huh?

What is produces are essential for your pamper sessions?

Review: Aztec Secret Indian Healing Facial Clay

Health & Beauty - Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask Tub
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay - Green Bentonite Clay Powder

I saw this face clay around over a year ago but steered clear thinking it was simply a gimmick product like a perfume called ‘mermaid tears’ or body shimmer called ‘fairy dust’. It wasn’t until it popped up in one of Simply_Kenna’s Cruelty-Free Products video that I finally thought I’d give it a shot. The Aztec Healing Clay comes in a screw top tub, as seen above, which I paid around £9 for a 1 Lb tub from Amazon. There was a mixture of reviews on the site which made me a little hesitant but at such a cheap price I decided to go for it.

The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Facial Clay has multiple uses and benefits, including removing dirt and impurities from pores. It’s deep cleansing properties are miracle workers for the minimized appearance of pores and brightening effects on the skin. Bonus factor- it’s 100% natural Calcium Bentonite (Green) Clay.

How can you use it?

  • The tub says the clay can be used for facials, acne, bodywraps, foot soaks, baths and insect bites. Personally, I have only used it on my nose, around my lip area and on acne as those are my problem areas.
  • To use, simply add equal parts of the clay with raw apple cider vinegar or water to form a smooth paste.
  • To mix, it’s required to use a non-metal bowl and utensil
  • Make sure no liquid gets into your tub of product so the rest of the clay powder doesn’t ruin.
  • Once the mixture is smooth, apply to problem areas and let dry. For delicate skin let the mix sit for 5-10 minutes and 15-20 minutes for normal skin. It will feel tight and may even have a warming effect on your skin.
  • Once ready to remove, rinse off with warm water.
  • Once removed skin will have a redness to it for around 30 minutes but soon disappears.
  • Use once a week, or more often for problem areas.

This product has become a must-have in my skincare regime and I use it once a week. Because you are mixing it yourself, at times it is a little tricky to get the consistency right and in the first few uses you can potentially waste quite a bit of the product. My advice to avoid this would be to start with the smallest amount and go from there, even if that means mixing up a new batch if you don’t quite have enough for your use. I have to say, overall I am super impressed by this product and its’ quality. I would recommend to anyone who wants to give their skin some extra TLC.

Kind Natured

I came across the brand Kind Natured when I was searching for a natural shampoo and conditioner. I was just giving up hope when I was drawn to the simple but pretty packaging. Although it’s not entirely natural it is pretty close and with no Parabens, Sulfates or Petrochemicals I had to grab it. I discovered these gems in Boots and they are usually on a 3 for 2 offer so it works out a great way to try out a few products without breaking the bank. Here is a little about the products they do…

Hair Care

The shampoo and conditioners were the first things I tried amongst the products and I used the Colour Care Coconut & Shea Shampoo and Conditioner. I found the formulation so hydrating and moisturizing on my hair, plus it smells amazing. I have also used the Super shine Argan & Kukui oil shampoo and conditioner which is such a divine combination and also helps keeps my frizzy flyaways stay at bay. The Nourishing Ylang Ylang & Sage and the Volumizing Rosemary & Mint are two of the Shampoo and Conditioner variations that I haven’t tried as yet but I do have them to hand for when mine run out.  The ylang-ylang and sage one particularly smells incredible.

On a recent trip to the drugstore, I noticed Kind Natured have started to produce kids products. There are two shampoos: Apple Smoothie Gentle Care Kids Shampoo and Jam Doughnut De-Tangle Kids Shampoo. They also have a Tutti Fruitti detangler spray which, I’m not going to lie, I have actually been using (and loving).

Bath Soak
Now I haven’t tried any of the bath soaks because, well -I don’t have a bath. But the combinations they have are Nourishing Amber & Pink Pepper, Heavenly Coconut & Passionflower, and Soothing Sea Salt & Bergamot. If anyone has tried these please leave a comment below or on my insta, I’d love to hear your thoughts
Body Wash
The body wash is amazing. So far I have tried the Nourishing Amber & Pink Pepper and the Soothing Sea Salt & Bergamot but I know there is also Heavenly Coconut & Passionflower; which I will probably try out at some point soon. Sea Salt & Bergamot is my favourite so far. I find the combination so calming which is perfect when you want to wind down. I’m hoping Kind Natured bring out a body cream in this scent, it would be so dreamy!
Lip Balms
Now I feel I need to mention that the lip balms are more of a lip gloss consistency rather than a balm. Packaged in a squeezy tube, it can be all too easy to squeeze too much out all at once and then have sticky lips. I have the Moisturizing Coconut Oil one in my bag on me, pretty much all the time. I tend to keep the Nourishing Manuka Honey at home and apply it at night as the formulation is a more intense moisturizer.

Now, I usually mention whether or not products are cruelty-free and vegan certified however there are no indicators on the products themselves and I couldn’t see anywhere online either so, for now, that is a big question mark.

Body Love with Tropic

*If you haven’t already read my Tropic post or know who/what Tropic is then you can do so here

Tropic Products - Body Love and Body Smooth
Tropic products, Body Love and Body smooth

Here are two of my favourite products I use in my everyday routine from Tropic, Enjoy!

Tropic - Body Smooth, refreshing polish

Body Smooth, refreshing polish
Body Smooth is the founding product of Tropic. (It is the first product that Susan Ma handmade in her kitchen and sold in Kilner jars at Greenwich market). With a blend of rich sea salts and invigorating essential oils, this product is perfect to smooth dry skin and get your skin silky, soft ready to flash some flesh in that little black dress. I particularly love using this product on my upper arms, lower legs, and knees: all of which I get super dry patches of skin.

To use this product simply apply and massage onto dry skin before hopping into your shower or bath. Rinse off and then massage excess oils into the skin.

Tropic - Body Love, Firming Buttercream
Tropic - Body Love, Firming Buttercream

Body Lovefirming buttercream
With ingredients such as Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, and Shea Butter, Body Love is guaranteed to give your body all the hydration and nourishment it needs. It’s quickly become my holy grail product and has even worked miracles on noticeable lumps, bumps, and scars I thought would never disappear. I particularly love slathering my skin with this after using the Body Smooth.

Just like any other body cream, apply daily after your shower or bath to hydrate skin with the added bonus of a velvety finish.

I love both these products as individuals, but also love using them together. I find the quality of these products to be so luxurious, especially for their price point and the fact that they are 100% naturally derived.
