Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: An Introvert’s Story, Debbie Tung
5 stars!!!
This is a beautifully illustrated comic book showing the trials of life as an introvert. It’s incredibly accurate in its portrayal of the character coming of age and settling into adulthood as an introvert. Produced by Debbie Tung, it is a based off of her own encounters as an introvert through university, work and her love life.

Based on very mundane and simple moments of everyday life, it captures the awkward and cringey struggles that us anxious introverts go through. What’s great about the book is that although these is a developing thread throughout the book, it’s not imperative to read it in order. You can simply flip through and pick it up wherever.
The other thing that I really love about this book is that Tung really shines a light on the positives about introversion. Sure her character feels awkward, anxious and has to contend with a lot of hurdles like most of us introverts; but her character also discovers certain elements of her introversion that help her too. It’s almost like discovering what your superpowers are.

I also really enjoyed how ‘seen’ I felt while flipping through this book. There’s often the anxiety and fear that I’m entirely alone or ‘weird’ for not wanting to socialise, but this was truly a beacon of light and hope that I’m not alone. I also loved that when my boyfriend took a look at it, he couldn’t help but keep saying ‘look –that’s you!‘.
I’d definitely recommend this to any introverts out there -or any comic/illustrated book enthusiasts. I can’t wait to delve into more of Tung’s work -I already know that she has a illustrated book about books!
Cheerio for now!
